The pandemic and school closure world over have created unique realities that no one was prepared for. It has also been a catalyst for change, and an opportunity to drag education ten years into the present.
Virtual Classrooms have opened up the possibility to form global communities of learning and bring cutting edge learning solutions to classrooms around the world.
However, the opportunity remains underutilised because traditional, linear curricula are being pushed into virtual classrooms carrying with it the many problems of yesterday.
The Greatest English Classroom
Breaking linear norms and reimagining the English classroom as a community of learners using language in authentic contexts, The Greatest English Classroom:
Creates a community of invested learners, great educators, and industry experts
Ignites curiosity and guide learners down their paths of learning
Transfers ownership of learning back to the students.
Empowers students to excel in life with the skills to communicate emotions, great ideas, and success.
Develops a model of community as curriculum for teachers around the world to adopt through targeted training.
English classrooms that take students from the real world into a world in textbooks!
Textbooks can be used as springboards to explore language use in the real world, but in many contexts, students are being locked up in textbooks and made to spend hours on arbitrary bits of language with no real engagement.
Many amazing educators work tirelessly to fix this approach in their own contexts, but they do not have a platform to share their work with the world.
Invested Learners – Learners who want to experiment with English to find and express their voice, the way the want!
Global Educators – Educators who want to take their teaching practice to the world and share their work with a global community of learners. Educators who are willing to scaffold learning in a rhizomatic manner by empowering students to follow unique paths to their learning.
Industry Experts – Experts from various walks of life who want to guide the youth using lived experiences from their contexts.
The Write Story is a unique, global writing initiative that encourages participants to learn while writing by providing constant support and encouragement with the structural aspects of language and leaving the students worry-free to explore creative aspects using their natural intelligence.
Each writer has to craft a compelling story based on a “sign prompt” in the backdrop of the global pandemic we have all had to experience. The key is to ensure that the sign informs your choice of characters, the complications or issues that arise, and the climax of your story. Each category has a unique sign that will guide your storytelling.
